Privacy Policy

The short version

The generators run in your browser. Saved names live in your browser. The only thing that leaves your device is a description you deliberately submit to the describe-your-crew mode, and that is not stored.

Names you generate and save

Rolling names is entirely client-side. The style you pick and the names produced are never sent anywhere. Names you save with the star are written to your own browser's local storage on your device. We cannot read them, they are not linked to you, and clearing your browsing data deletes them.

The describe-your-crew mode

This mode sends the description you type to a language model through our server so it can be answered. The description is processed to produce names and is not stored by us, not attached to any profile and not used for any other purpose. Do not put personal information into that box, since there is no reason to and it would be sent unnecessarily.

We apply a per-address rate limit to that endpoint to prevent abuse. That involves temporarily holding a request count in server memory, which is discarded on restart and is not used to identify anyone.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting aggregate analytics to count page views and see which generators get used. Analytics never receives anything you type into a generator or the describe box.

Advertising

This site is supported by advertising. Third party ad vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com or aboutads.info. There are no affiliate links on this site and nothing is sold here.

Children

The kids name generator is designed to be safe for children to use, but this site is a general-audience resource and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
